Hey all -
I have a trip to Antarctica booked in a couple of weeks and I will have some time before and after to explore some of South America. I'm looking for advice/ideas on what to do/see with the time that I have.
Here's my schedule so far:
Jan 31 - Land in Santiago, Chile @ 10am
Feb 1 - Santiago - No plans
Feb 2 - Santiago - No plans
Feb 3 - Fly to Buenos Aires @ 12:45pm / Land @ 2:40pm
Feb 4 - Fly to Ushuaia @ 3:05pm / Land @ 6:40pm
Feb 5 - Board Antarctica ship @ 4:00pm
Feb 15 - Back to Ushuaia @ 9am / Fly to Buenos Aires @ 1:55pm / Land @ 5:15pm
Feb 16 - Feb 22 - No plans
Feb 23 - Fly home
I'm interested in ideas on what to do in Santiago for a couple of days (31st, 1st, 2nd) before I head to Ushuaia. After I return from Antarctica, I'll fly back to Buenos Aires and was thinking of spending a couple of days there. I'm thinking maybe take the ferry to Uruguay for a day trip or an overnight trip (is it worth it?). Possibly a trip to Iguazu falls (Argentina side? Brazil side? Both?) and then finish off the trip in Brazil (open to ideas on where). I've been to South America before (Colombia, Peru, Ecuador, Bolivia), but never to any of these countries that I'm looking to visit on this trip.
I know it's kind of a tight timeline, but I don't mind getting up early and moving quickly to explore. Any suggestions on where to stay, what to see, and where to eat/have a drink are what I'm mainly looking for.
