Seeking advice for Yucatan-Guatemala-Chiapas Road Trip

Hi r/Travel! I am curious if anyone has embarked on a road trip like this and could give me any advice. I have long been interested in seeing the archaeological sites in Southern Mexico, Yucatan, and Guatemala. I have been to several parts of Mexico before (Cancun, Cozumel, Oaxaca, CDMX, and several others) but not Guatemala.

We are planning 21-30 days for this road trip:

  • Fly in/out of Cancun, Mexico, but drive down to Tulum right away
  • Tulum
  • Bacalar & Calakmul
  • Flores, Guatemala
  • Panajachel & Antigua
  • San Cristobal, Mexico
  • Palenque
  • Campeche
  • Valladolid

Along the way, my must-sees are: Calakmul, Tikal, Atitlan, Palenque, and Uxmal. We would want to do Tulum and some beach time, too.

Reading through other online posts and America Car Rental seems to be the go to for cross-border car rentals from Cancun - are there others? I would love to chat with anyone who has done something similar about itineraries, particularly if you drove (I know there is also public transit between these places). I welcome feedback, ideas, or suggestions!
