Hello all,
We received amazing feedback at our drafted route from this original post: https://www.reddit.com/r/travel/comments/pznunz/rough_1416_day_december_colombia_peru_itinerary/
Since, I think we have solidified most of the routing and would love any feedback, fun activities, or other ideas that we may have missed. I am 35/M going with my wife 33/F for our adapted honeymoon to Medellin + Peru from December 15-30th this year. We are about to book our Manu National Park Tour + Machu Piccu tickets tonight. Here is the almost finalized itinerary:
12/15-12/18 - Chicago -> Medellin
Spend 4 days exploring Medellin. Take a day trip to Guatape.
12/18 - Medellin -> Lima
Spend 2 days exploring Lima PLUS we booked Central (#4 restaurant in the world) on 12/20. This is the only reason we're staying here for a full 2 days.
12/21 - Lima -> Cusco
Spend the day to get acclimated to the altitude on 12/21.
12/22 - Take the train and bus to Aguas Calientes and spend the night there. Maybe (but probably not) get the latest Machu Piccu ticket for the regular grounds we can.
12/23 - Get up as early as possible and into the queue. Book the 6:00 / 7:00 tickets for Huayna Piccu and hike up. MAYBE eat lunch and do a second ticket to explore the grounds - but not sure we'll have time, or energy, to do 2 circuits. We will need to take the latest train back to Cusco by the end of the night.
12/24-12/28- Book a 5-day Manu National Park tour. Currently looking at Peru Summit for the tour guide. They look really reputable with other reviews on TripAdvisor (and we may contact to see if we can add in the MP trip to the experience as well and stick with them for 7 days - not sure if that would work or they could accommodate). We are DEFINITELY open to options here - as we have not booked yet. Just seems like most tours are 3-4 days OR 6+ days. We only have the ability to do 4 or 5 and prefer 5.
12/28 - Cusco -> Lima (maybe even fly back on 12/29)
12/29 - Relax in Lima
12/30 - Lima -> Chicago (flight is like 2am)
Appreciate all the feedback and comments in advance. Thanks so much to all.
