Out of curiosity: Why do so many “travel gurus” say *not* to wear makeup on flights?

Possibly a silly question, but as a woman who had surgically induced menopause several years ago at 29, my skin is the Sahara Desert…

I’ve found that wearing makeup daily (on top of my rigid skin care routine — I use oils and Beautycounter skin care and makeup) has kept my skin clear and seals in moisture all day, whereas the days I don’t wear makeup my skin gets tight and I have to keep applying moisturizer all day long.

Every self-proclaimed travel expert doesn’t really go into details about why we shouldn’t wear makeup on flights other than “it dries out your skin.” So my brain always goes to: what kind of makeup are you wearing, because mine keeps me hydrated all day…

Again, possibly a silly question, but is there any better reasoning as to why no makeup is the supposed way to go?

With that said, it’s been 3.5 years since I’ve travelled, and as of December, I’ll be back to traveling regularly. I don’t remember makeup ever causing me a problem before (longest flight I’ve taken in one shot was only 7.5 hours though), but if there are valuable reasons why makeup should be avoided, I am very interested in learning why.

Thanks, in advance!
