This happened last month. I was visiting a friend in the UK. The night before the return trip, it started to snow a lot. We were about 1 hour away from the airport but we gave ourselves 4 extra hours to get their in case something went wrong and, oh boy, did stuff go wrong. As we were talking up to the train station, we got a notification that all the trains were cancelled. My friend's brother was willing to drive but the 1 foot of snow made it difficult. We got stuck once but eventually we made it with an hour to spare. We ran in and the flight was still listed on the displays but by the time we got to the check-in booth, they said it was too late.
I couldn't check in online because their website would send me in a loop and won't process. I ordered the tickets from the US but this happened in the UK. Do I have any rights as far as a refund goes? Especially since it was their fault I couldn't check in? I have screenshots of the website and the parking ticket with time stamps as evidence showing I was there an hour early. The airline was Virgin.
