Is it relatively safe to drive through Reynosa to the airport there? I have to but am wondering if I should take a different route (this one was just the most direct and quickest).

I'm planning to take a cab or something through Reynosa to get to the Airport there but am wondering if there is any safer ways than Reynosa. I only am thinking of this way since anywhere I go is going to be kind of unsafe and this way is the quickest. Is this ok or should I rethink my route because I have to get to the airport there. If it is best to go this way, then any tips to not stick out? I'm white and in my lower 50s but have been to Mexico City and South Bend 1990s (Indiana) and will be with a woman from Mexico City.
