Have 9 days in Europe, recommendations?

https://ift.tt/eA8V8J

Family of 4, everyone is 18 or older. So far we have three potential routes for an early July trip.

  • Barcelona>Paris>Belgium (Bruges and Brussels)>Amsterdam
  • Barcelona>Lyon>Paris>Belgium
  • Barcelona>Lyon>Geneva>Paris

This is our first time in Europe, and we are pretty determined to go to Paris and Barcelona. Other than that, we are open to selection in terms of other cities. For what we are looking for in destinations, I'm a foodie myself, and also love parks/museums/markets and sightseeing in general. Less of an architecture nerd, I do appreciate the surroundings but I wouldn't choose a place solely on it.

Some thoughts I have had regarding which one to visit.

  • Wanted to try Belgian Waffles and frites, as well as see the Grand Palace and the "Fairy Tale City" of Bruges so that's why Belgium is a potential stop
  • I have heard that the food in Lyon is absolutely magnificent and I also want to visit Old Lyon. I really enjoyed Old Quebec so I would think Lyon is probably even better for that cobblestone feel.
  • I've researched Geneva the least but the sights do look very impressive (also the only romance language that I can speak is broken French, so that's a plus for Geneva over Belgium)
  • I'm also a little hesitant about Amsterdam because I feel like that trip would be better spent with friends than family (for obvious reasons).

That said, if there are other cities that we could reasonably reach by train that would be better than Lyon/Geneva/Brussels/Bruges, please recommend them, or if there is a specific route of the three that would be best, please comment. Thanks!
