Are low budget bad movies just money laundering schemes? The curious case...

https://ift.tt/eA8V8J

Several days ago, I made a thread asking about what happened to actress Anna Hutchison, who has been relegated to shitty low budget movies. You can find the thread here

So, I'm just using this as an example, but look at this trailer for one of the film's she's in called 'Murder at The Mansion' (2019) - it looks hilariously low budget:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ExnnPApe1qk

This obscure low budget film has a 4.5/10 rating on IMDb with only 65 votes.

Now who produced this film? Stargazer Films USA, a premier independent entertainment company head quartered in Louisville, Kentucky. They're a division of Wyoming-based Stargazer Corp., a privately-held American mass media company.

They've produced FOUR of the five films she is in, all similarly low budget (Starting Up Love, Secrets at The Lake, Murder at The Mansion, Spitting Image) - https://stargazerfilmsusa.com/our-films/

Upon further examination of this company, four of the ''team'' have the last name O'Brien - https://stargazerfilmsusa.com/team/

Yes nepotism goes a long way, but it is a bit fishy.

Anyway, I am not trying to vilify the actors/actresses who choose to be in these films, nor am I making any hard accusations. What I've cited above is just one example of a shady production company, there's dozens more who produce these shady low budget movies. I'm just curious at the chances that these are money laundering schemes? I do wonder whether the actors/actresses are aware of whether they are. I've always had the inkling that they are such schemes.

Microsoft says North Korea-linked hackers stole sensitive information

https://ift.tt/2SC7bBv

Microsoft says North Korea-linked hackers stole sensitive informationThallium is believed to be operating from North Korea, Microsoft said in a blog post, and the hackers targeted government employees, think tanks, university staff members and individuals working on nuclear proliferation issues, among others. Most of the targets were based in the United States, as well as Japan and South Korea, the company said. Thallium tricked victims through a technique known as "spear phishing", using credible-looking emails that appear legitimate at first glance.

Ukraine holds big prisoner swap with pro-Russian separatists

https://ift.tt/36c6ylW

Ukraine holds big prisoner swap with pro-Russian separatistsKIEV/MOSCOW (Reuters) - Ukrainian government forces and pro-Russian separatists in the east completed a large-scale prisoner swap on Sunday after bussing scores of detainees in the five-year conflict to an exchange point in the breakaway Donbass region. The swap should help build confidence between the two sides, who are wrangling over how to implement a peace deal after the loss of more than 13,000 lives, but major disagreements remain and full normalization is far off. Ukraine said 76 pro-government detainees were handed over, while separatists said they took 120 of their prisoners during the swap at a checkpoint near the industrial town of Horlivka.

Five killed in Louisiana plane crash

https://ift.tt/2rACFga

Five killed in Louisiana plane crashA small plane crashed into the parking lot of a post office in Louisiana shortly after takeoff on Saturday, killing five people and fully engulfing a car on the ground in flames, authorities said. The two-engine Piper Cheyenne crashed about 1 mile from the Lafayette Regional Airport, Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Tony Molinaro said. The plane was en route to a college football playoff game in Atlanta between Louisiana State University and Oklahoma, said Steven Ensminger Jr., who told The Associated Press that his wife, Carley McCord, was on board. Ensminger Jr. is the son of the offensive coordinator for the LSU football team. McCord was a sports reporter. View of a car which was damaged in light aircraft plane crash which killed five Credit: Scott Clause /The Daily Advertiser  Video and photos showed a trail of scorched and burning grass around the crash site in the city of Lafayette. A blackened car sat in the post office parking lot, which was carpeted with scattered tree limbs. Four people were brought to the hospital: one from the plane, one on the ground and two post office employees who were brought in for evaluation, said Lafayette Fire Department spokesman Alton Trahan. The aircraft was an eight-passenger plane, Lafayette Fire Chief Robert Benoit told KLFY-TV. The plane went down in a part of the city with a scattering of banks, fast food chains and other businesses. Marty Brady, 22, said the lights went out at his apartment a couple of hundred yards (183 meters) or so away from the crash site as he was preparing to make coffee. He said he ran out and saw black smoke and flames from the post office parking lot and downed power lines. “There were some people screaming and somebody yelled that it was a plane,” he said. Brady said the plane clipped a power line over the gate to his apartment complex. "If it had been a little lower, it could have been a lot worse,” he said. Kevin Jackson told KLFY-TV he heard a "massive explosion" and saw a "big old ball of flame" when the plane crashed. He and other eyewitnesses told the TV station that the plane hit a car as it fell, and that someone could be heard screaming inside the vehicle. Lafayette is the fourth-largest city in Louisiana with a population of about 130,000, according to the 2018 census. It is located about 135 miles west of New Orleans. _-

Hanukkah stabbing that injured five called 'domestic terrorism' by New York governor

https://ift.tt/2ZAhoA0

Hanukkah stabbing that injured five called 'domestic terrorism' by New York governorA stabbing at the house of a Hasidic rabbi in New York which left five injured has been condemned as “domestic terrorism” by the state’s governor.  Andrew Cuomo said the attack during a gathering to celebrate Hanukkah was evidence of a “cancer” spreading in America as he warned of a surge in “hatred”. Police named the suspect arrested as Grafton E. Thomas, 37. He will face five counts of attempted murder and one count of burglary.  The attack happened around 10pm  on Saturday in Monsey, an area with a large population of ultra-Orthodox Jews which is about 35 miles north of the city of New York.  Witnesses described a man bursting into the home of the rabbi, Chaim Rottenberg, where dozens of people had gathered on the seventh night of Hanukkah. The assailant’s face was said to have been partially covered by a scarf and he brandished a large knife. Guests reportedly fought back by throwing tables and chairs.  Police said the stabbings happened at around 10 p.m.  Credit: REUTERS  The exact status of the victims was unclear on Sunday evening but one person was said to have been very seriously wounded. The rabbi’s son was among those injured.  Aron Kohn, 65, who witnessed the attack told The New York Times: “I was praying for my life. He started attacking people right away as soon as he came in the door. We didn’t have time to react at all.” “We saw him pull a knife out of a case. It was about the size of a broomstick.” The attacker later attempted to enter a synagogue next door before fleeing the area. A witness noted the assailant’s license plate number and alerted the police, with a suspect later being arrested in Harlem.  Extra police patrols were organised for three areas of Brooklyn, a New York borough with a large Jewish population, in the wake of the stabbing. In Britain, the chief constable of West Midlands Police said he would provide reassurance to local Jewish communities. Investigators cordoned off the large home on Forshay Road yellow crime scene tape Credit: Seth Harrison/The Journal News via AP Mr Cuomo, who has been New York governor since 2011, said: “It is domestic terrorism. These are people who intend to create mass harm, mass violence, and generate fear based on race, colour, creed. That is the definition of terrorism. “Just because they don't come from another country doesn't mean they are not terrorists. They should be prosecuted as domestic terrorists." "We are not going to let this poison spread. No one else can defeat this county, but this country can defeat itself.” The stabbing is the latest in a string of brutal attacks that have alarmed the Jewish community, leading to renewed concerns about anti-Semitisim in America. Earlier this month a shooting in a Jersey City kosher market saw three people inside the store and a police officer killed. The two attackers also died in a standoff with police.  In October 2018, a gunman killed 11 worshipers at the Tree of Life synagogue in Pittsburgh in the deadliest anti-Semitic attack in US history. Mr Coumo, speaking outside the rabbi’s house on Sunday, said: “This is an intolerant time in our country. We see anger, we see hatred exploding." He added: “It is an American cancer on the body politic." Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said his country “unequivocally condemns” the “vicious attack”. He pledged to “cooperate in every way” with the local authorities to help stamp out anti-Semitism.  It is not known how the suspect will plead.  Ivanka Trump, a senior White House adviser and daughter of the US president, issued a call for more political action to tackle anti-Semitism in the wake of the attack. She tweeted: "The increasing frequency of anti-Semitic violence in New York (and around the country) receives far too little local governmental action and national press attention."

Louisa May Alcott’s Courageous Career as a Civil War Nurse

https://ift.tt/2u0xsPz

Louisa May Alcott’s Courageous Career as a Civil War NurseThe Christmas release of director Greta Gerwig’s new film version of Louisa May Alcott’s Little Women presents a fresh opportunity for Alcott’s 19th-century classic to be read as a book that speaks to the present feminist moment. But it will be a shame if the renewed interest in Alcott that Gerwig has sparked does not also lead to a long-overdue appreciation of Alcott’s heroism in the Civil War.In 1862, two weeks before Christmas, Alcott left her home in Concord, Massachusetts, to serve the Union cause by working in a military hospital in Washington, D.C.  In Little Women Alcott made the Civil War the background for her story of the March sisters and their mother, but in 1862 the Civil War became central to Alcott’s life.In the Union Hotel Hospital, a former Georgetown tavern in which she worked, Alcott saw death firsthand, and, like the doctors and nurses in the hospital, became vulnerable to the disease and infection the wounded troops brought with them.Men Will Love ‘Little Women’ Too. I Can’t Believe I Have to Say That.Walt Whitman’s account in Specimen Days of his work at the modern Union hospital in Washington, D.C., is far better known than Alcott’s. When we think of the suffering experienced by the soldiers of the Civil War, the quote most often cited is Whitman’s “the real war will never get in the books.”Alcott’s stories of her Civil War experiences appeared serially in May and June 1863 in the Commonwealth, a Boston anti-slavery newspaper. They are as moving as anything Whitman wrote about the war and were published together in August 1863 under the title Hospital Sketches long before Specimen Days appeared in book form.Alcott began her Civil War nursing service as a novice. On Dec. 16, 1862, the carts she saw drawing up to the hospital to which she had been assigned were not, as she first thought, farmer’s market carts carrying produce. They were carts bearing wounded and dying men from the battle of Fredericksburg, where the Union Army endured one of its worst defeats of the war, suffering 13,000 casualties. There was no time for Alcott to absorb the war gradually or get used to the sight of a veteran “with an arm blown off at the shoulder.”Alcott soon realized her duties were as much psychological as physical: “Having got the bodies of my boys into something like order, the next task was to minister to their minds,” she observed early in Hospital Sketches. The doctors, after doing their best for their patients, had no hesitation in giving Alcott the unwelcome task of telling men who were dying that they would not survive their hospital stay.“I could have sat down on the spot and cried heartily, if I had not learned the wisdom of bottling up one’s tears for leisure moments,” Alcott wrote of an especially painful assignment to deliver the bad news. She did as told. Then she stayed with the soldier to the end. When the soldier died, he was holding Alcott’s hand so tightly that she needed help prying open his grip. Even when her hand got back its color, the white marks of the dead soldier’s fingers remained. “I could not but be glad that through its touch, the presence of human sympathy, perhaps had lightened that hard hour,” Alcott remarked.Over the course of her time in Washington, Alcott became better at learning to deal with the suffering around her, but she never shut her eyes to the wrongs she saw. She was especially sensitive to the racism of the North. “The nurses were willing to be served by the colored people, but seldom thanked them, never praised, and scarcely recognized them in the street,” she noted. In her postscript to Hospital Sketches, she observed that the next hospital she hoped to work in would be one for “colored regiments.”That next assignment never came. As a result of her hospital work, Alcott contracted pneumonia and typhus. At the end of six weeks at the military hospital that she called Hurly-burly House because of its disorganization, Alcott’s father, the famed educator Bronson Alcott, came to Washington to take her home. As her biographer Susan Cheever has written, “She left for the war a vigorous and energetic woman; she returned a true casualty.”Alcott suffered from mercury poisoning that came from the doses of calomel medicine the doctors in Washington prescribed for her, and the physician treating her at her home in Concord added to her difficulties, ordering her head shaved on the grounds the shaving would lower her fever.  Sick as she was, Alcott thought she had no grounds for complaint given the horrors she had witnessed in Washington. As she wrote in her understated conclusion to Hospital Sketches, “I shall never regret the going, though a sharp tussle with typhoid, ten dollars and a wig are all the visible results of the experiment; for one may live and learn much in a month.”Read more at The Daily Beast.Get our top stories in your inbox every day. French trade unions have spearheaded nationwide strikes since early December in an outcry over President Emmanuel Macron's pensions overhaul, disrupting schools, railways and roads, while lending support to regular protests. On Saturday "yellow vests" - an anti-government movement that sprung up a year ago as a backlash against the high cost of living - joined a rally of several thousand people against the pensions shake-up.

Trump Retweet of Alleged Whistle-Blower’s Name is Back on Twitter

https://ift.tt/eA8V8J

Trump Retweet of Alleged Whistle-Blower’s Name is Back on Twitter(Bloomberg) -- A retweet by President Donald Trump, naming the alleged whistle-blower whose complaint triggered the investigation that resulted in his impeachment, was restored to Twitter late Saturday. The post, originally from the handle @Surfermom77, was retweeted by Trump to his 68 million followers about midnight Friday and by Saturday morning was no longer visible in the president’s Twitter feed. CNN first reported late Saturday that the temporary removal followed a Twitter glitch that affected certain accounts, not deliberate action to delete the tweet by Trump or someone with access to his account.“Due to an outage with one of our systems, tweets on account profiles were visible to some, but not others,” the social media site posted on its @TwitterSupport account. The tweet identifies an individual it says is the whistle-blower: the person who first raised the alarm about the president’s conduct in his July 25 phone call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy.A mystery also surrounded the @Surfermom77 Twitter handle, which by Sunday night appeared to have been wiped from the social media site. Trump’s retweet was being directed to a different account, @4Shereene4, or “Leona.” @Surfermom77 had described herself as living in California and a “100% Trump supporter” -- as did the @4Shereen4 handle. On Saturday afternoon the account, with its pro-Trump and anti-Democratic material, was shown as having been “temporarily restricted.” It was visible again on Sunday morning but by late Sunday afternoon appeared to have been erased, with followers down to five from 78,000 and no biographical information.Confirming the identify of the account holder is next to impossible, but the original @Surfermom77 handle shared some traits common to fake accounts. Since its inception in 2013, the user’s profession evolved from “historian-documentary writer” to “educator” to “image model,” according to older versions of the account archived by the Wayback Machine. The name of the account holder also changed, from “Sophia” to “Evonne” and back to “Sophia.”Surfermom77 also appeared more than 1,000 times in Twitter’s own data set detailing accounts the company has removed and attributed to state-backed operations. The handle appeared in conversations Twitter deemed to be run by Russia and its Internet Research Agency, along with Iran and Venezuela. In late 2016 the account was linked to Gab, another social media platform popular among the extreme right wing. The White House didn’t respond to a request for comment on Trump’s Twitter activity.Trump has posted about the whistle-blower dozens of times over the months and also suggested in comments to reporters that he would like to unmask or face the individual.“Like every American, I deserve to meet my accuser,” Trump tweeted in September. On Thursday Trump also retweeted a link to a Dec. 3 article from the conservative Washington Examiner newspaper that carried the name of the alleged whistle-blower.Attorney Andrew Bakaj, who represents the whistle-blower, lamented in a tweet on Saturday that U.S. lawmakers, who in the past have championed the privacy rights of whistle-blowers, including Iowa Republican Senator Chuck Grassley, have shown “deafening” silence recently.“This is a defining moment where legacies will either be solidified or destroyed,” Bakaj said on Twitter.(Updates with details of Twitter activity from eight paragraph.)To contact the reporters on this story: Ros Krasny in Washington at rkrasny1@bloomberg.net;Kartikay Mehrotra in San Francisco at kmehrotra2@bloomberg.netTo contact the editors responsible for this story: James Ludden at jludden@bloomberg.net, Ros Krasny, Steve GeimannFor more articles like this, please visit us at bloomberg.com©2019 Bloomberg L.P.

HELP!- I’m all of a sudden headed to Santiago Chile tomorrow and have ZERO plan.

https://ift.tt/eA8V8J

Long story short. I booked a trip to hike the el Camino in Spain this week. Went to check in the airline today and it appears that I’m actually booked for Santiago Chile instead of Santiago de Compostella Spain. Nice! No insurance. Coat is now prohibitive to fly to Spain. Looks like I’m going to Chile tomorrow.

I’ve been to Peru and it changed my life hiking the Inca trail. I need some serious help with a trek or something that I can get to from Santiago Chile. I would consider a domestic flight to elsewhere to trek as well. I’m thinking Patagonia but know nothing about it yet. Please helpppp meeeee!

Feel free to roast me as well. I deserve it.

Is traveling the world with my savings (~$50k) a good idea?

https://ift.tt/eA8V8J

I saw a similar post in a different subreddit but my situation is a little different.. so I’m currently a 23F teacher (been teaching 2 years) and expect to have $50k saved by the end of this school year (I have $37k now).

I’m planning on switching careers and applying to medical school in Texas this May (2020). The medical school application process is really long in the US so I wouldn’t matriculate into school until August 2021.

I could teach during the 2020-2021 school year and then travel that summer for 2 months ...but I’ve always had this desire to go on a long term trip and travel because I know I won’t have the chance to once I start med school...

Is spending my savings and traveling (if I have an acceptance...fingers crossed lol) irresponsible?? I’ve completely paid off my car and have no student loan debt / any other kind of debt ..I would be missing out on making money that I could use towards paying for medical school, but I guess I kind of want this experience now when I’m young? any advice is appreciated!!

My wife and I are struggling to decide on a travel destination in early July 2020 (over the 4th of July). We are looking for something warm and sunny, outside of the US, but not anywhere super touristy. We were close to pulling the trigger on Belize, but are a little turned off by the seaweed issues they've been having during the summer.

Our preferences: We like traveling to places with pretty landscapes, especially with water/beaches.

Good food (and drinks) are very important to us - food has been both our favorite and least favorite aspect of previous trips, and we've taken trips (within the US) specifically for beer and wine.

My wife doesn't handle jet lag well, so a limited time difference is preferred, but not required.

We want a good mix of things to do (snorkeling, hiking, breweries/wineries to visit, great restaurant scene), but not so much to do that we'll feel rushed. We went to Spain earlier this year, and felt guilty for napping because there was so much we should have been doing instead (but it was still lovely).

Our budget is $8,000 for two people for ~8-10 days, and we like to stay in nicer hotels.

We live in Seattle, USA, with American passports, and have previously traveled to Hawaii, Spain, France, England, Italy, and the Cook Islands.

PLEASE HELP: Australian WHV application - need advice on the cost of Health Examinations

https://ift.tt/eA8V8J

Soon after my application, I got emailed a letter saying:

'We require you to complete health examination(s) to ensure that you meet the health requirement for your Working Holiday (subclass 417) visa application.'

From what I understand, it's because I've been in a high TB burden for 3+ months over the last 5 years. They've asked for a:

  • Medical Examination and

  • Chest X-ray Examination

Problem is, the one 'panel physician' Australian Immigration recommends in London charges £275 for the checks, more than the cost of the visa itself. I'm not sure if I can afford this right now and have around 3 weeks to get back to them.

I really want to hear from people who have been in a similar position (applying from the UK)

Do you HAVE to go through a 'panel physician'?

Is there any way to get it done through the NHS / cheaper?

Would I be able to get a refund for the original application fee if I can't get the money together on time? I wasn't aware that the application would cost me over £530 :/

Any advice would be much appreciated,

Thanks!

First time traveling to Ireland - any tips?

https://ift.tt/eA8V8J

My wife and I are looking to travel to Ireland from the USA next year, but neither of us have ever been to Europe. The only international travel either of us have done is me going to Jamaica a few years ago.

I am thinking of going in August for my wife’s birthday. The biggest thing we are interested in is seeing the hills and rocky landscapes, plus we are big foodies.

Walkable towns and cities with a toddler?

https://ift.tt/eA8V8J

My wife and I have been traveling the world as much as possible for the 15 years we have been dating. Recently we had our first child who is now over a year old. During that first year we have gotten him time on an airplane and he does really well on short trips. My parents have also been traveling with us and love it.

I am wondering what recommendations you all have for walkable cities in the USA that are good also for a toddler. We are aiming for cities similar to Portland, Maine or skagway alaska. Towns we can stay in the heart of and wander each day. We are not against downtowns to major cities also. We live in Washington so have to keep in mind flight times also and avoiding layovers if possible with a toddler.

Thanks!

Backpack advice for backpacking

https://ift.tt/eA8V8J

I'm going backpacking this summer and will be away for around 60 days, the country I'm going to is going to be very hot and humid. I will sometimes camp instead of using hostels so thus I will bring with me a tent and a sleeping bag/sheet. I don't really know if i'll need the sleeping bag for those temperatures so I might end up just brining a light sheet instead. Other than that gear I will of course bring some clothes and smaller necessities. I want some advice on what backpacks I should check out, I think 65L might be a little too big, I am not bringing a lot of stuff. The tent dimensions when packed are 45 x 12/10 cm. The backpacks I have been looking at are the Fjällräven Kaipak 58L, Fjällräven Abisko Friluft 45L, Fjällräven Keb 52L and Osprey Atmos 50L. What do you think, is 65L really necessary when bringing this tent and potentially a sleeping bag?

Pete Buttigieg's Christmas tweet inadvertently sparked a war over whether Jesus was a poor refugee

https://ift.tt/350heCQ

Pete Buttigieg's Christmas tweet inadvertently sparked a war over whether Jesus was a poor refugeePete Buttigieg, mayor of South Bend, Indiana, and top-tier 2020 Democratic presidential candidate, tweeted a Christmas message: "Today I join millions around the world in celebrating the arrival of divinity on earth, who came into this world not in riches but in poverty, not as a citizen but as a refugee. No matter where or how we celebrate, merry Christmas." In 2019, those are apparently fighting words. Some conservative Christians protested that Joseph, the terrestrial father of Jesus of Nazareth, wasn't poor — though it's hard to see how a carpenter from an otherwise insignificant village in Galilee would be well-off — or faulted Buttigieg for not saying "Jesus" in his tweet. "But it was perhaps Buttigieg’s classification of Jesus as a refugee — a common line among the Christian left — that received almost immediate pushback from evangelicals," says The Washington Post's Eugene Scott. The Daily Wire's Matt Walsh tied the criticisms together in one tweet, and he got some pushback from Jack Jenkins, a religion reporter with a master's degree in divinity from Harvard.> Hi! Religion reporter here. > > Christians who argue Jesus was a refugee are typically referring to what happened AFTER Jesus was born, when Mary, Joseph, and the newborn child fled to Egypt. > > This exegesis is easily Google-able. Or you could just, you know, read it in the Bible. https://t.co/DBL1by2maW> > — Jack Jenkins (@jackmjenkins) December 26, 2019Walsh, who is Catholic, argued back that Jesus wasn't a refugee because Galilee and Egypt were both part of the Roman Empire. Fr. James Martin, a Jesuit priest who's nobody's idea of a theological conservative, explained in 2017 why Jesus and his family were clearly refugees, at least according to the Gospel of Matthew. And fellow Jesuit priest Jeremy Zipple noted that Pope Benedict XVI — nobody's idea of a liberal — disagrees with Walsh, as did Pope Pius XII.> What an absurd position to take. And Buttigieg dropped his Christmas tweet into a tender moment for evangelicals being internally challenged to square their faith with their fealty to an unrepentantly flawed president. Hawaii helicopter crash: Six people dead and one person missing after crash at top of 'Jurassic Park island'

https://ift.tt/355z5IK

Hawaii helicopter crash: Six people dead and one person missing after crash at top of 'Jurassic Park island'The remains of six people have been found after a helicopter heading to one of the most rugged and remote coastlines in Hawaii crashed at the top of a mountain on the island of Kauai, authorities said. Officials said that there are no indications of survivors and that a search for the last person yet to be recovered would resume in the morning. Those who were recovered have not been identified and their families are being notified, authorities said. Two passengers are believed to be minors, the Coast Guard said. A search began for the helicopter carrying a pilot and six passengers from two families after it was reported overdue Na Pali Coast on Kauai, known as “Jurassic Park island”. An aircraft from Safari Helicopters went missing at about 6pm on Thursday (4am GMT on Friday). "The last contact with the helicopter was made at approximately 4.40pm, when the pilot relayed that the tour was leaving the Waimea Canyon area," the statement said. Mark Zuckerberg bought a sprawling estate in Kauai in 2014, and has since bought neighbouring parcels of land  The helicopter had six passengers, including two children, on board, as well as the pilot. It was last seen off the coast of Kauai island, where the dinosaur epic was partly filmed. The owner of the helicopter contacted the Joint Rescue Coordination Center in Honolulu, which coordinated crews to search the scene. The helicopter is equipped with an electronic locator, but officials said that no signals has been received. Nearly 80 per cent of Kauai is uninhabited, and much of that is a state park that most helicopter tours include as a point of interest. Mark Zuckerberg, the Facebook founder, owns a $100 million estate on the island. Officials said weather conditions in the area may factor into the search, but trained crews are on the scene searching for any signs of the helicopter and the seven aboard, said Petty Officer 1st Class Robert Cox, Coast Guard Joint Rescue Command Center Honolulu. There is reportedly four miles of visibility in the area because of clouds and rain. Winds are at 28mph and waves at six feet, with scattered rain showers. Some of the 70,000 residents there have braced for holiday rains and floods, which closed part of a highway on Christmas Day. The company that conducted the tour was not identified by officials. Politicians in Hawaii have considered implementing tighter restrictions on aerial tours in Hawaii following a string of deadly incidents. The north coast of Kauai Three people were killed when a tour helicopter plummeted onto an Oahu highway in April, and a commercial skydiving plane crashed in June, killing 11 people. Ed Case, a Democrat representative for Hawaii introduced in August a bill that would “impose strict regulations on commercial tour operations,” including helicopters. The bill would prohibit helicopter pilots from serving as tour narrators while flying, among other restrictions. “These tragedies occurred amidst a rapid increase in commercial helicopter and small plane overflights of all parts of Hawaii . . . [and] increased risk to not only passengers but those on the ground,” said Mr Case. However, opponents of the bill pointed out how much money is brought in by the tours. The Hawaii Helicopter Association estimates that air-tour operators contribute nearly $150 million to the state’s economy each year. “Safe operations, and regulations to ensure that operations are safe, must take into account the geography, weather including cloud cover, specific equipment and air traffic control,” the association said in September.

Al Sharpton Warns Democrats over Impeachment Focus: ‘Deal with Kitchen-Table Issues’

Al Sharpton Warns Democrats over Impeachment Focus: ‘Deal with Kitchen-Table Issues’Reverend Al Sharpton cautioned Democrats on Friday over ignoring “kitchen-table issues” in the race to defeat Donald Trump, saying “right now we cannot say with any comfort that Donald Trump would not be reelected.”Appearing on MSNBC’s Morning Joe to discuss impeachment, Sharpton warned that a hyper-focused Democratic effort to impeach Trump could distract from a vision of “how we move forward.”“Where a lot of the Democrats have made a mistake is they’ve fed into a narrative that Trump is dictating, rather than saying ‘okay, let them do that — I’m back, involved in trying to make you and your life work,’” Sharpton said. “That’s the person that could beat Donald Trump.”Sharpton urged that Democrats needed to frame the discussion in order to have “Trump react to that, rather than we react to Trump,” arguing that the president feeds of the negative attention he receives.> Underlining the need for 2020 Dem contenders and the media to stop focusing on Trump, instead we need to focus on a better agenda for America. MorningJoe pic.twitter.com/9A5nYxs0Ix> > -- Reverend Al Sharpton (@TheRevAl) December 27, 2019He also pointed to the danger that an election driven by impeachment could devolve into “wonderland” and “nerd politics.”“The election is about me, my house, food on my table, my kid’s tuition.” Sharpton said. “If they can’t address that, they’re going to miss everybody.”“I think voters really that are struggling, which are a lot of the base, which is a lot of the base of the Democratic party, are really trying to deal with kitchen-table issues,” Sharpton continued. That’s what we’ve got to address, particularly while you have a president that’s bragging about the economy. Right now we cannot say with any comfort that Donald Trump would not be reelected. That should make us uncomfortable.”A Friday article from the Wall Street Journal showed wages for low-skilled workers are rising at the fastest rate in more than a decade amid a tight labor market, while in recent months unemployment hit its lowest rate since 1969 and record lows for minorities.

United Kingdom - Luggage Stolen from the coach when I came to pick it up after the end of journey.

https://ift.tt/eA8V8J

Hey Guys, I need a advice on my situation.

I was traveling from national express coach and as my journey ended I was the last passenger as I was sitting in the end. I came down to look for my luggage and my luggage wasn't there which clearly means that it was stolen. Someone took it away and I have no clue. The driver admits that I was the last passenger and even before I got down he had closed the loading as everybody took there luggages.

I have called the national express and they told me that they can log me in into there data base for lost and found property. It is quite clear that my luggage is stolen and the driver admits it too. I'm not really sure what should I do. Report the police?

Does anyone think I can recover my goods in the luggage. The whole day I have been to Victoria station and I'm very anxious about the situation.

What is national express supposed to do in my situation and I cannot see any procedures for it.

Has anyone flown TAP Portugal recently and had their carryons weighed?

I'm flying tomorrow from Chicago to Lisbon to Barcelona. Has anyone flown a similar route recently and had their carryon bags weighed? I think I can make the 17lb limit work for my carryon, but I'm worried about the 4.4lb limit for a personal item. I've read a few posts about TAP on this subreddit, and most people say they didn't get their bags weighed, but they were from a few months ago. Any insight would be appreciated!
