Robert De Niro is really great in The King of Comedy (1983)

I just finished watching it for the first time and im really surprised that it’s a Scorsese movie and I am really surprised by De Niro’s performance. He goes from his usual tough guy or mobster act to a very passionate (albeit bad) comedian, or perhaps even a little psychopathic but nonetheless a nicer character who just wants to be loved by people. The movie’s first act is good and the second falls a little flat to me but, De Niro acts so much differently than most of his movies, i think it’s brilliant. The irony is that Rupert Pupkin wants to be big but Robert De Niro is one of the biggest in the business and he really acts it well.

I never watched Joker but i know the baseline story (dont give me spoilers!) and well, it has to take inspiration from The King of Comedy for sure, i mean it’s basically the same story but without the psychopath and heavy crime.
