Scotland by train
Hi, I’m trying to book a train from Edinburg to Inverness and then Inverness to Glasgow. I noticed that it’s much cheaper when you do round trip vs one way. Is there a way to do a multi city trip without paying so much more?

Milan+Lake Como or Lake Garda?
I have 3 spare nights in end of September that I can’t decide my itinerary for. I am already travelling to Venice and Verona in North Italy. I am confused with either spending them on Lake Garda or going to Milan and a day trip to Lake Como.
This would be my first to Europe. Going by what I have researched Lake Como seems to give a more different and unique vibe than Lake Garda plus I can get some time in Milan too. However, Lake Garda too has different sceneries in both north and south.
Please suggest what should I do?
From North Italy I’ll be going to French Riveria and spending a couple of days there.
Thank you.

First solo trip Europe!
Hey everyone!
I am planning on going to Europe late October or early November. My top choice right now is Barcelona.
I am 24m and want to sight see/ am looking for good nightlife and fun hostels!
Is Barcelona the right choice this time of year? Any other good options? Best hostels?
I am new to this whole thing so any input would be greatly appreciated :)

Visit NYC or London in November?
Debating whether to visit London or NYC November 18-25 from San Diego, CA.
Background: 29, traveling with husband Spent 1 week in NYC in 2021 & 2 days in London in 2022 (loved both cities) Interests: food, history, art & things like comedy shows, theatre, etc. Budget: we’ll end up spending relatively the same amount in either city - so this isn’t a deciding factor
We really love both cities, both have direct flights from San Diego AND we’re having a hard time committing to which city to spend the week in.
Where would you spend the week & why?

What did you do before it became commonly accepted as unethical?
This post is inspired by the riding an elephants thread.
I ran with the bulls in 2011, climbed Uluru in 2008 and rode an elephant in 2006. Now I feel bad. I feel like, at the time, there was a quiet discussion about the ethics of the activities but they were very normalised.
I also climbed the pyramids, and got a piece of the Berlin Wall as a souvenir. I'm not sure if these are frowned upon now.
Now I feel bad. Please share your stories to help dissipate my shame.

1ST FULL DRUM COVER SINCE INCIDENT
🚨 YO PEOPLE 🚨 I figured I’d share this one with you guys. It’s been a while since I’ve posted anything here on Reddit. Over the past 8 months, I’ve been recovering from an accident last November. I got hit by a car while helping another stranded motorist on a small stretch of road. I ended up with a compound tibia fracture in my left leg, a knee fracture (also left leg), and a cheekbone fracture. Since then, I’ve been through 80+ days in the hospital (the first 46 days for recovery, the next 40ish days due to a MRSA infection, roughly 10 surgeries, countless hours of physical and occupational therapy (still doing PT to this day), and (like I mentioned) a slight MRSA infection. So yeah, I’v been through some shit. 😮💨 As of today, I can walk again but with the help of a cane and an AFO (ankle foot orthosis) brace. Both of these will hopefully not be permanent, so we’ll have to see what the future has ahead of me. Outside of that, I’m can also drive again, including my lil’ stick shift shitbox (2006 Scion xA). Most importantly, I can play the drums again, which means I can play gigs, teach private lessons, resume studio work, and make videos for you guys. 😆 Here’s the latest new full cover since the accident. It’s “House of Wolves” by Bring Me the Horizon. This was a request from a friend, as well as a challenging one with some fun yet thoroughly challenging double kick considering my condition. I hope you guys enjoy and find some inspiration from me coming back! Thanks, all! 🙏🙏🙏 [link] [comments] |

Inca Rail - any input?
I tried searching and couldn't find much info. Has anyone taken the Inca Rail?
My family's looking into a trip to South America next year. My dad came across the Inca Rail to possibly do for part of the trip. Has anyone in here done it and have any input? Even for first class tickets it seems well priced.
My dad's big question is would it be good for a family or is it mostly older folks - my parents are in their 50s, brother and I are in our late 20s, little brother is a teen. Thanks!

How do you choose where to go??
I know this is a first world problem but I've been agonizing for a month over this. I only have so much PTO and it takes me a solid year or two to save for a big trip. I want to take a trip next year, either to Portugal or Ireland. I went to Ireland last year and fell in love with everything I saw and encountered, I made friends there that I'm still in touch with, etc., so part of me thinks that I should do Portugal since I've never been there before. BUT, if I were to do Ireland again, I would only go places I didn't get to see on my first trip (I've only been to Dublin and Galway, it was a quick trip) so it would still be new experiences. I know whatever I decide has to be a good one because I likely won't be able to go back for another 2 years after this. How do you decide when two locations sound good? Normally I would say "por que no los dos?" and do both, but I don't get enough vacation time at work to spend as much time as I'd want in both places.

Christmas Market Itinerary Help
Hi, I'm looking for some advice planning a European Christmas Market itinerary! I had something planned out roughly, but now I'm starting to think it may have been *slightly* ambitious and I need a reality check/some help from people who know what they're doing (not me).
I'm flying in and out of Paris (I got a really good promotional fare for a roundtrip in/out of Paris). I'm landing in Paris on the morning of Dec 06 and leaving Dec 21 (total of 16 days). My ideal trip is to hit as many Christmas markets as possible, while also enjoying the cities themselves (I have only ever been to Iceland, so this will be my first time to mainland Europe).
So far, I have hostels booked in Paris (1 night) and Strasbourg (2 nights) with plans for a daytrip to Colmar. I'm planning on spending more time in Paris at the end of my trip. Ideally, I would like to see a few different countries (I don't mind travelling at a bit of a faster pace; as well, I doubt I'll have another chance to visit Europe after this for quite a while).
Thanks for any/all advice-this sub has been super helpful and I appreciate any input!

37 day Amtrak journey across the United States.
Hey Reddit, I have an upcoming Amtrak journey next month and I am really excited about it. I would appreciate some input on my plans. After spending 2 years traveling across the continent in 2013 and 2014, I am returning to the US for the first time. During my previous journey, I explored mostly Canada and the northern parts of the US. This time, I have decided to take a southern route on Amtrak using the USA Rail Pass. Just like in 2013, I will begin my journey in New York. While the exact route is not completely finalized, I do have a rough plan for the schedule. The Rail Pass provides me with more flexibility, even though it costs $10 more than purchasing individual tickets. See the attached Image for Map and full itinerary.
Flight from BER (Germany) to JFK on Norse for a very good price of 284 euros. (8h55m)
New York Brooklyn, 4 Nights, Staying at friends place
Train to Philadelphia (1h25m)
Philadelphia, 3 Nights, Staying at Hostel
Train to Washington D.C. (1h55m)
Washington D.C., 3 Nights, Staying at Hostel
Train to Charlotte (9h24m overnight)
Charlotte, 4 Nights, Staying at Hostel
Train to Savannah (1h47m)
Savannah, 3 Nights, Staying at Hostel
Greyhound bus to Atlanta (4h30m)
Atlanta, 2 Nights, Staying at Hotel
Train to New Orleans (12h54m overnight)
New Orleans, 4 Nights, Staying at Hostel
Train to Houston (9h18m)
Houston, 2 Nights, Staying at Hotel
Train to Tucson (26h25m overnight)
From Tucson 6/7 night camping trip with Friend from AZ, driving with car to Monument Valley and Grand Canyon, drops me off at Flagstaff AZ.
Train to Los Angeles (11h22m)
Los Angeles, 2/3 Nights, Staying at hostel
Train/Bus to San Francisco (10h17m)
San Francisco, 5 Nights, Staying at hostel with probably a trip to Yosemite
Fly Back to Germany on Lufthansa direct but a whopping 539$
Budget:
499$ US Rail Pass for 30 days
823$ Flights
55$ Bus Tickets
115$ Fuel
800$ - 1000$ Accommodation
1500$ Daily expenses etc. roughly 40$ a day on a 37 day trip.
Total: 3792$ and 4000$ would be my absolute max total for this.
I really wanted to include Dallas in my plans, but the train connections in the southern region are quite inconvenient, resulting in either a significant detour or an excessively long bus ride. Having endured a 68-hour Greyhound bus journey from Toronto to Edmonton before, I am adamant about avoiding bus rides lasting more than 10 hours. However, I am truly passionate about trains, cities, and architecture, all of which I anticipate encountering abundantly on this journey.
Most of my itinerary is already booked, although I have yet to outline specific activities for each destination. I am contemplating whether a few days will be sufficient for places like Atlanta and Houston. Unfortunately, the USA Rail Pass is limited to a strict 30-day duration, meaning that from the moment I depart from New York, I have precisely 30 days to reach San Francisco in time for my return flight.
If you have any insights or inquiries regarding my plans, please feel free to ask. I intend to create a post detailing the specifics of how this journey unfolds once it is completed.

[PORTUGAL] Lisbon To Porto by Train Q
Hello,
We are looking to take the AP train from Lisbon to Porto in September and came across a few questions
- According to Seat 61, children under 4 travels for free, however, when I try to book a ticket on CP.PT or OMIO, it mentions that a child under 4 needs to sit on a lap? Should we be getting a seat for our little one? (for children under 12 which is 50% off)
- Do we have it correct that we should be purchasing a ticket with the following stations?
Lisboa - Santa Apolonia - Porto - Campanha. From here we are thinking of doing the free transfer and take the suburban train to the Porto São Bento station and uber to the hotel from here.
- Is there specific time that i should avoid on Sunday? (planning to book a 8am train since anything between 9-12pm seems to be ineligible for promo pricing.
Thanks

Advice for a week in Florida
Hi there,
Hoping for some opinions. I'm taking my family to Florida for 2 weeks. The first week will be your typical orlando Disney/ universal and cocoa Beach vacation. However, the second week is still up in the air. We have a car rental and we generally like seeing places that are a little bit off the beaten path. I know Florida has endless beaches but I'm sure the kids would love any one just as much as the other. I would prefer not to spend the entire time driving but wouldn't be opposed to traveling a few hours a couple times. I've heard Clearwater springs and St. Augustine would be really good things to see. Does anyone have any other advice? Thanks so much!

Ibiza in November?
I’m considering visiting Ibiza for 5 days in November for my birthday. If it’s anything like Mallorca in November, then it’s likely I’ll be deterred as I’m familiar with the island life but I’m curious if things in Ibiza are a little more available. We’ll likely rent a big place and host our own fun with but we’d like to combine the time hiking, maybe swimming, eating, drinking and possibly one, maximum two parties. So I have 3 questions -
1) Where’s good to stay for a group in their 30s? We drive.
2) Would it still be possible to find the odd rave or good party for one, or even just two nights?
And 3) Will there be enough activities to do? We’re not a rowdy bunch so we don’t need the hustle and bustle of the epic parties you see on social media, but it would be nice to find a few good restaurants, bars, tours, activities - kayaking? Exploring caves? Wine tasting? Yoga? Good dinners? Will it be warm enough for beach hopping?
