I’m planning a 17-day trip in early–mid April with my girlfriend and would like some feedback on pacing and ideas to fill a gap. We’re aiming for a balance of city, nature, relaxation, and some diving.
Current plan (rough)
Hong Kong + Shenzhen: ~4 days total
(Urban contrast, food, tech, day trips. They’re next to each other, so seems efficient.)
Koh Tao + Koh Phangan: ~7-8 days
(Relaxation, nature, diving/snorkeling. April is the best season for this area.)
Bangkok: ~2 days
(We’ve already been multiple times, so just a short stop.)
That puts us at ~13-14 days, so we’re missing around 4-5 days.
Additional thought
We were considering adding Shanghai for 3–4 days after Hong Kong/Shenzhen.
Pros: Another major city experience, variety
Cons: Extra flights, visa hassle, big-city fatigue
Alternatively, we could skip Shanghai and add more days in Thailand, but we’ve already been to Phuket, so unsure which destinations make sense in April for weather, beaches, or nature.
Questions
-
Is 4–5 days for Hong Kong + Shenzhen too rushed or reasonable?
-
Is ~8 days too much or too little for Koh Tao + Koh Phangan combined?
-
For the remaining ~5 days, what would you suggest that fits naturally into this route?
-
Would Shanghai be worth adding, or better to focus on Thailand or any other location?
FYI I've already been to Japan, Northern Vietnam, bali, Singapore.
