First time to Portugal & Spain: sanity-check my itinerary?

We are a couple in our 30s from Singapore and are super excited to go on our 15 day trip to this region. From what we have seen so far, there is really rich culture and it presents itself differently in everyday life across the different regions. The cuisine looks splendid as well in both countries, and we are really looking forward to the food and high-quality produce.
The thing is, there is so much we want to do and see that we had a lot of trouble finalising where we want to visit. We’d really appreciate it if you could sanity-check our itinerary and suggest any changes.

We’re visiting in late March/early April 2027. We prefer not to drive, and are very interested in culture, food, architecture, art and beautiful scenery. We generally prefer visiting slower, more chill places coming from a busy city, but we are also happy to spend time in busier areas or visit crowded sights if they have significant historical or cultural value.

Honestly, we live really far away from Portugal and Spain, so the flight tickets are expensive and we want to make the most of the trip. At the same time, we don’t want to pack every day with sightseeing and end up completely exhausted. We’re trying to find a good balance between seeing a lot and actually having time to enjoy each place.

Our current itinerary is:

Day 1, Sat: Lisbon
Arrive around 12pm. Check in, explore the hotel neighbourhood, have a nice dinner and take it easy.

Day 2, Sun: Cascais
Lisbon to Cascais as a day trip. We are thinking of doing just half a day and returning to Lisbon in the afternoon, but could spend the full day there if people think it is worthwhile.

Day 3, Mon: Sintra
Full day in Sintra. Main priority would be Quinta da Regaleira and potentially another major sight. We don’t want to cram too much into this day, and read that Pena Palace can be obscenely touristy.

Day 4, Tue: Lisbon
Full day in Lisbon. Planning to explore the city at a slower pace rather than trying to tick off every attraction.

Day 5, Wed: Lisbon to Porto
Travel to Porto in the morning and arrive around 1pm. Explore Porto from around mid afternoon onwards, mainly walking around, eating and getting a feel for the city.

Day 6, Thu: Douro Valley
Full-day trip to the Douro Valley. We are thinking of doing this as our main big excursion from Porto and keeping the evening free. Try port wine.

Day 7, Fri: Porto
Full day in Porto. Mainly interested in architecture, food, the riverfront, cafés and just wandering around. Would like to visit Livraria Lello as I am an avid reader, but I’ve also read that it’s obscenely touristy and crowded so having some hesitation.

Day 8, Sat: Porto
Another day in Porto, but intentionally keeping this one even slower. We may use it for anything we missed, shopping, cafés and generally having a more relaxed day before the early flight the next morning. See what the locals do on the weekends. Probably do some laundry.

Day 9, Sun: Porto to Seville
Early flight to Seville. We should be able to start exploring around 12pm. Catch a flamenco show in the evening.

Day 10, Mon: Seville
Full day in Seville. We definitely want to visit Alcázar, Cathedral/Giralda, Plaza de España.

Day 11, Tue: Seville to Córdoba
Slow morning in Seville, then train to Córdoba. Explore Córdoba in the afternoon/evening and stay overnight.

Day 12, Wed: Córdoba to Granada
Morning in Córdoba, lunch, then train from 3:21pm to 4:58pm to Granada. Check in, dinner (by hopping across 2-3 bars probably that serve tapas alongside drinks) and a relaxed evening.

Day 13, Thu: Granada
Full day in Granada. Main priority is the Alhambra, with time for the Albaicín and some wandering around. See the sunset.

Day 14, Fri: Granada to Madrid
Train from Granada 11:04am to 2:38pm. We are thinking of buying some food from the local supermarket and having lunch on the train, and then just having a relaxed final evening in Madrid to prepare for our flight back to Singapore.

Day 15, Sat: Madrid
Slow morning, lunch, then head to the airport for our late afternoon flight home.

The main things we are wondering about are whether this is a reasonable pace, whether we have allocated too much or too little time to any particular place, and whether there are any obvious changes you would make to the route.

We are particularly interested in hearing from people who have travelled through these places without a car. Is this a reasonable balance between seeing a lot and not exhausting ourselves? What would you recommend?

traveling abroad for the first time

Hi!

Bit of an inexperienced young adult here who is traveling from the US to Europe in October. Not only is this my first time out of the country but I'll be alone for the traveling portions until I meet my friends in Berlin. I guess I'm just seeking any advice that experienced travelers might have! And hopefully you can answer some of my questions, too!

- Once arriving in Berlin, do I need to connect my phone to any additional servicing or will it work normally there for me to be in touch with my friends?

- What is the best mode of transportation to get around the city? Taxis, trains, Uber/Lyft?

- Should I make all my purchases on cards? Or carry cash around with me?

Any and all help/advice appreciated! Thanks!

Syria June 2026

We spent 8 days in Syria back in June and it was one of my favorite trips of recent memory. Flew to Amman and took a car to Damascus. We used a guide and driver and saw Damascus, Maloula, Basra, Krak des Chevaliers, Homs, Latakia, and Aleppo.

It was truly amazing to be walking the steps of the Apostle Paul in Damascus, seeing the ancient amphitheater at Busra, and wandering around the beautiful crusader castle of Krak des Chevaliers.

It was a much easier trip than I thought it would be (only partially because we had a guide), and the only danger we felt was the fear of a vehicle crash due to the poor driving and passing habits of motorists.

Happy to answer any questions people may have.

BKK Arrival - using a taxi

Just a suggestion: When arriving to BKK , using reserved hotel car through a concierge from a better hotel is the best route imo. THAT ASIDE... if you would like to use a taxi, I suggest go down stairs from the exit doors. There is a taxi box there with someone assigning regulated drivers. My last trip was to Si La Salle station at 22:25 arrival. 300B plus 100B tip I give. There are other solutions, but this one works well for me.

Easiest/cheapest way to get from NYC to Niagara Falls (US side)?

I’m visiting New York City and considering a trip to Niagara Falls on the US side. I’m trying to find the best balance between cost, travel time, and actually having enough time to enjoy the falls.

I’ve looked at:

My main concern with the one-day tour is that it looks like I would leave before the evening fireworks, which seems like a big part of the experience.

For someone starting from Manhattan, what would you recommend?

A place to leave my luggages in Madrid's airport?

I will have an 8 hour and 30 minutes layover in Madrid, and a long time friend of mine from there wants to give me a city tour. I am so excited but just worried about one thing

Is there a place I can leave my luggages at? Like a locker that I rent or something like that? I will have my backpack, a carry on plus a dispatched luggage up to 23kg

So I'm worried about that, but not much else tbh since I am allowed to leave the airport from what I know, and just gotta make sure I get to the airport 3 hours ahead of the flight back too

How much to slow travel Europe

Looking to do a possible 180 on my life. Last summer I travelled for 24 days and spent $7k Canadian ($5k USD) in that time period. I'm thinking of traveling for a year.

In those 24 days I did London, Venice, Rome, Barcelona, Faro, Lagos, Lisbon, and Porto. I stayed in hostels.

I'm researching costs and people are saying they were able to do a year of travel for 20-40k. Obviously my units don't scale well.

Anyone who's done it before have any advice?

Thanks!!

Has anyone checked in a new luggage during a long layover in Japan

I am traveling from Vietnam to the U.S. on ANA with a layover at Haneda Airport (HND) in Tokyo. My ticket includes an allowance of two free checked bags, but I plan to check only one bag in Vietnam.

During my layover at HND, I plan to enter Japan, do some shopping, and purchase a second suitcase. When I return to HND for my connecting flight to the U.S., will ANA allow me to check this newly purchased suitcase as my second free checked bag for the HND–U.S. segment?

Good and Bad Tour Companies for Europe?

We are mid 60s, average fitness and health and looking at booking a few European tours over the next couple years, one to the UK, one to the Netherlands area and then Northern Italy. It seems like everybody out there is a tour company and prices and reviews are all over the place so I ask you, what are some of the tour companies that you have found to me good, and you would use again and which ones have you found to be bad and would totally avoid. Thank you in advance.

Filling in the holes in our Switzerland itinerary

We are headed to Switzerland October 12-23. We are flying in and out of Zurich, and we already have booked the first five nights in Wengen to get the Alps experience (cutting it close on the season, but husband's work is paying so beggars can't be choosers). We are planning on staying in Zurich the last two nights, both to catch our flight but also because I want to visit the zoo. So that leaves the middle four nights.

I know we can't see everything in 12 days, but the options are overwhelming. Do we stay in Zermatt instead of just doing a day trip? Do we try to spend a few nights on the French boarder and eat our weight in cheese and chocolate? Do we go east and try to take a train into northern Italy?

Any suggestions for where to stay and what to do in the middle of our trip would be incredible. Bonus points for recommending a specific hotel or AirBnB.

Day 10: Fly back home

Expedia is demanding $605 after my credit card dispute was resolved in my favor — do I actually owe this?

I’m looking for honest opinions because I’m getting conflicting information.

I booked a Spirit flight through Expedia. Spirit canceled my original flight, so I had to make a last-minute replacement booking with American Airlines that cost significantly more. I also had to drive to another state to catch the replacement flight.

Then the American Airlines flight was delayed around 5 hours, causing me to lose significant time and planned activities at my destination. American only offered lounge access, which didn’t really help.

Before disputing anything, I contacted Spirit, Expedia, and American Airlines by phone and tried to get the situation resolved. Nobody offered reimbursement for the additional cost.

I eventually disputed $605.71 with Chase — not the entire American Airlines ticket, just the additional amount I had to pay compared with my original flight.
Chase investigated the dispute. Their March 9, 2026 letter says the dispute was resolved and that Chase credited my account for the full $605.71. I called Chase today and specifically asked whether this was just a temporary credit. The representative told me that the merchant accepted the dispute, Chase then resolved it, and that the merchant could not simply charge me again through the dispute process.

Now, almost a year later, Expedia is contacting me demanding the $605.71 and says that if I don’t pay, it could potentially go to collections and I could be prevented from booking with Expedia Group in the future.

My questions:
Can Expedia legitimately demand this money after the merchant accepted the dispute and Chase resolved it?
Can they actually send this to collections and potentially affect my credit?
Can they close my Expedia account over this?
Does the fact that I actually used the replacement American Airlines flight make the chargeback improper, even though I only disputed the additional $605.71?
Am I misunderstanding how the chargeback process works?

I’m genuinely looking for honest opinions. If I’m in the wrong here, tell me why. I just want to understand what Expedia’s actual basis would be for demanding this money now.

Itinerary help: Tromsø, Bergen & Oslo (or skip Oslo?), plus car vs. public transit advice for Norway

Hey everyone! I’m planning a trip to Norway for my partner’s birthday and would love some input on our route and logistics.
Here is what we currently have in mind:
Destinations: Tromsø, Bergen, and possibly Oslo (we're on the fence about Oslo—we aren't huge city people, but we aren't totally opposed to it if it's worth a stop).
Vibe we want: Cute little towns, Viking history, and stunning, postcard-worthy views.
Activity level: We aren't as active as we should be, so no extreme mountaineering. However, we can comfortably handle long walks and steep hills, and we'd likely book guided tours if we need transportation to trailheads or specific sights.
I have a few specific questions for those who know the area:
1. Should we include Oslo? Given that we are leaning more toward nature, small towns, and history rather than big city experiences, is Oslo worth a couple of days, or should we skip it to spend more time exploring the fjords and smaller towns around Bergen/Tromsø?
2. Car rental vs. public transit: Should we rent a car to get around Bergen and nearby towns/scenic areas, or is public transportation/tour-based travel sufficient?
3. Any hidden gems or tour recommendations that fit our vibe (cozy towns, Viking history, moderate walks) would be hugely appreciated!
Thanks in advance for any help!

Overnight Train Venice to Rome

In late september and early october I will visit the Dolomites, and my flight back home departs Rome Fiumicino airport at 12:30. I figure I have to get to the airport around 9:00 to deal with customs and checking in, so my plan is to go on the overnight train from Venice Mestre to Rome Termini that arrives at 6:35 and then get the express train to the airport that should take half an hour. Since the train is overnight, I am assuming that there is a low risk of significant delays, and since I am scheduled to arrive early I have a lot of padding for eventual delays.

I want to do this to avoid having to leave my hotel 2 am and drive at night to get an early high speed train, or having to get an afternoon high speed train that arrives at Termini around 23:00 and finding a late check-in hotel.

Is this a good plan? Are there many delays in the overnight trains?
