worried about traveling to the US with customs

making this post on behalf of my partner, who is 19,

unemployed for 5 months, and a UK citizen coming from

Scotland. He's worried about the likelihood of getting through customs.

He has proof of savings, a return ticket, airbnb tickets, a uni

visit when he goes back, proof of dentist appointment after returning, family in the UK, bank statements,

but no property, rental, and is not currently in school anymore.

we're coming here to meet in person for the first time, as well as meeting some other online friends. we're going to a race, and then we are all flying back home on the same day.

we're looking for real world experiences here, I'm trying to

calm his nerves about it.

I've been saying that as long as he doesn't keep knives in his

shoes, he should be fine.

mostly concerned about if customs will pull you for screening if you talk too long about what your travel plans are, or what the procedure is. should he mention he's visiting his partner over here or should he be general and say a group of friends? obviously he needs to be honest, but how specific does customs need to know?

please be kind in the comments. this is my first time on a

plane, and his first time coming to the US, and he's doing it

alone. i have massive respect for him.
