So I made a mistake and didn’t realize my driver’s license expires the same day I leave for a trip to Italy. I already renewed it online successfully, so I have the printed temporary license from the DMV. I was also able to get my international driving permit using the temporary license.
But now I’m realizing many Italian rental car agencies may not accept a paper license — which feels kind of crazy when I have:
- A valid IDP
- A valid temporary license that legally allows me to drive in the US
- The recently expired physical version of that same license
- A passport to verify my identity
