Hey everyone, this will be my first time traveling abroad and I was hoping to get a little bit of feedback on my planned Italy itinerary:
Right now the plan is to go in late September or early October:
- 3 days in Nice, France
- Fly to Naples
- Make our way to Amalfi
- 3 days in Amalfi
- Head to Rome
- 3 days in Rome
Fly back to the US from Rome
A couple of alternatives I’ve been kicking around:
- skip staying in Amalfi and instead use it as a day trip while staying somewhere like Sorrento.
- Skip France entirely, keep the whole trip in Italy, and add somewhere like Capri or Portofino instead.
I’m also completely open to other cities. Italy has always been at the top of my travel list, so I’m not married to this itinerary if there’s a better way to do it.
Budget wise aside from flights and lodging, I was counting on about 150 to 200 USD a day. I'll be going with my girlfriend so I assume I'll probably be paying for the majority of both of our spending. I was planning on probably one nice meal a day and then the rest will be grab and go food, grocery type stuff.
Id like to keep it as cheap as possible without pinching penny’s. Generally want to avoid unnecessary spending without taking away from reasonable convenience and enjoyment for a first time Italy trip.
This will be my first time leaving America, my girlfriend has been to Europe but not Italy.
Am I missing anything or would you recommend doing anything differently?
