People who got to travel abroad in your early 20s, widely considered to be the best time to travel abroad, what was it like?

Apart from two brief day trips up to Canada (which I don't count), I sadly didn't travel until much, much later at 29. It wasn't by choice, either: I did have a trip to Europe planned at age 22 in the summer of 2017, I had my passport and was building towards it, but then had to nuke literally all of my life's progress back to zero just to an escape a traumatic period that set me back by so many years.

Even when I finally did travel abroad and saw Berlin, Prague and Krakow in March 2024, it burned that going at 29 after everything that happened was a fundamentally different experience than the carefree early 20s experience I was going to have, and that my friends and family also got with no effort.

I'm still really curious about what all I missed, so I thought I'd live vicariously through people who weren't screwed over and actually got to experience the golden age magic.

What was it like, and how vastly different was it when you later traveled older in your late 20s and 30s?
