Hi everyone,
I’ll be visiting Sydney for about 3–4 days and I’d really like to use the trip to learn as much as I can about Aboriginal and First Nations culture.
I’m particularly interested in traditional Aboriginal cultural performances, including dance and didgeridoo, Dreamtime storytelling, traditional art and symbolism, rock art, engravings and pictograms.
I would absolutely love to visit the Outback, but unfortunately the flights to places like Uluru/Ayers Rock, Broken Hill or Alice Springs are crazy expensive for such short flights. The train to Broken Hill is much cheaper, but takes around 13 hours, which is difficult to justify with only 3–4 days in Sydney.
So, if I’m basically limited to Sydney and the surrounding area unless there is another alternative I am unaware of, what would you recommend as the best way to experience and learn about First Nations culture?
I’m happy to travel outside the CBD if there are particularly worthwhile places or experiences within a reasonable distance.
If you only had 3–4 days in Sydney and wanted to get as much exposure to Aboriginal culture, history and art as possible, what would you recommend?
