'The Remarried Empress,' a Korean fantasy drama, has set a record on Disney+ and Hulu. Both The Hollywood Reporter and Deadline report that it is the most-viewed local original launch the services have ever had.
The series is an adaptation of the Webtoon of the same name, which Variety has covered as part of Hollywood's growing interest in turning Webtoon properties into television and film. Disney said the series premiered a day early, exclusively on Disney+ and Hulu.
The milestone shows how much weight Disney's streaming services are placing on regional programming from South Korea, and how well adaptations of popular digital comics can perform with subscribers.
